19 September 2024For many households spring is the ideal season in which to sort out every room of the house and deep clean everything. As exciting as it may sound, managing such a momentous task can be overwhelming. Where should you start? And what can you do if are on a budget?
Try our spring-cleaning action plan below for a budget-friendly and simple way to get the job done over a period of six weeks. You can choose to divide the list of tasks in each specific week as and how your schedule allows.
What you’ll need:
- Cleaning equipment – a vacuum cleaner and/or broom, mop and bucket, dustpan set, sponges and cloths etc.
- All Purpose Cleaner – This cleaner can handle most surfaces, reducing the need to switch products, making your cleaning process more streamlined. It can even be used on carpets and upholstery.

Week 1: Living Room
- Remove all items from surfaces (coffee tables, shelves, etc.).
- Sort items into three categories: keep, donate, discard.
- Organise and clean items that will be kept and return them to their proper places.
- Dust all surfaces, including shelves, furniture, and light fixtures.
- Clean windows and wash curtains according to care instructions.
- Vacuum and mop the floor thoroughly.
- Vacuum and wash carpets or rugs.
Week 2: Kitchen
- Clear countertops and go through cabinets and pantry items.
- Discard expired items and sort all kitchenware into a keep or donate pile.
- Dust surfaces, including the tops of cabinets.
- Clean appliances, countertops, and sinks.
- Wash any removable items (cutting boards, etc.).
- Vacuum/sweep and mop the floor thoroughly.
Week 3: Bedrooms
- Clear surfaces and go through clothes, shoes, and accessories.
- Sort items into keep, donate, and discard.
- Dust all surfaces and furniture, including dressers and nightstands.
- Clean windows and wash curtains or blinds.
- Vacuum and mop the floor thoroughly.
- Vacuum and wash carpets or rugs.
Week 4: Bathrooms
- Go through toiletries, medicines, and all other items in the bathroom.
- Discard expired products and sort keep/donate.
- Dust all surfaces, including shelves and light fixtures.
- Clean sinks, toilets, showers, and mirrors with appropriate cleaners.
- Sweep and mop the floor. Don’t forget the corners and the area behind the toilet.
Week 5: Home Office / Study
- Organise papers, books, and supplies. Discard unnecessary items.
- Dust all surfaces, including the desk and shelves.
- Clean windows and any blinds or curtains.
- Vacuum and mop the floor thoroughly.
- Vacuum and wash carpets or rugs.
Week 6: Hallways and Entryways
- Clear out shoes, coats, and miscellaneous items.
- Sort and organise items appropriately.
- Dust surfaces, including picture frames and light fixtures.
- Clean windows and any wall decor.
- Vacuum and mop the floor thoroughly.
- Vacuum and wash carpets or rugs.
