A step-by-step guide to deep cleaning a car’s interior
21 October 2024It’s not just the rooms in the house that needs some annual TLC. There are also specific areas outside that can do with intense deep cleaning too. Doing so will see to the removal of any accumulated dirt, debris, and mold and bring any repairs that need doing under your attention.
Now is just a good time as any to launch a large-scale outdoor spring-clean. This plan of action divides the most essential tasks over a doable four-week period.
What you’ll need:
- General cleaning tools – ladder, safety equipment like masks, goggles, gloves etc, bucket, microfibre cloths, scrub brushes, a garden hose, and an outdoor broom.
- JIM™ Handy Cream – A non-scratch, all-purpose cleaner, suitable for cleaning outdoor furniture and fixtures.
- Floor Kleener – A strong alkaline degreaser that cleans oil and diesel on garage floors and driveways.
- Gel Oven Cleaner – A non-corrosive cleaner ideal for grills, fryers & braais and suitable for glass, enamel, stainless steel, aluminium and cast-iron surfaces.
- Black Fluid – An effective drain cleaner with odour masking qualities.
- Hi-Pressure Washer – To quickly and effectively remove dirt, grease, and grime from surfaces like pavements, driveways, and decks.
Week 1: Patio, Paving & Garage
Patio & Furniture:
- Sweep thoroughly to remove debris.
- Wash surfaces.
- Clean and restore outdoor furniture (wipe down, treat wood, remove rust from metal).
- Check for any loose boards or nails that need repair.
Paving:
- Sweep thoroughly.
- Treat oil and grease stains with our Floor Kleener.
- Use a pressure washer to remove stains and built-up grime.
Garage/Shed:
- Declutter and organise items.
- Sweep floors and remove cobwebs.
- Check for any pest infestations.
Week 2: Gutters & Roof
Gutters:
- Remove leaves, twigs, and other debris.
- Flush with water to ensure proper drainage.
- Check for any leaks or damage.
Roof:
- Inspect for damage to the roof tiles, fascia’s etc.
- Clear any debris from valleys and flat areas.
- Check flashing around chimneys and vents.
Week 3: Outdoor lighting, jungle gym & grill/braai
Outdoor lighting:
- Wipe down light fixtures.
- Replace any burnt-out bulbs.
- Check for any exposed wires or damage.
- Adjust timers or motion sensors if applicable.
Kids’ play area:
- Clean and inspect children’s play equipment (swings, slides, etc.)
- Check for loose bolts, splinters, or rust.
- Rake and refresh playground sand.
Grill/braai:
- Deep clean grids, grates and burners.
- Check gas connections for leaks.
- Clean or replace drip pans.
- Wash exterior.
Week 4: Drains & Exterior walls
Drains:
- Remove leaves, twigs, and other accumulated material from drain covers and surrounding areas.
- Scrub covers with a wire brush to remove built-up grime.
- Remove any clogs within the drainpipe.
- Clean drain with Black Fluid.
Exterior walls:
- Use a pressure washer to remove dirt, cobwebs, and mildew.
- Pay special attention to areas under eaves and around windows
- Check for any paint chips or damage that might need repair
