Cleaning Warehouse’s Cleaning Calendar Checklist
19 September 2023A swimming pool is a great feature of any home. Particularly during spring and summer in South Africa’s wonderfully warm climate. It is the ideal backdrop for any party and offers both young and old hours of cooling-down entertainment. Plus, not to mention that 30 minutes of swimming per day is all you need to burn up to 450 calories, get a full body workout and improve your heart health.
Pool maintenance on the other hand, is far less fun but an absolute must to ensure its appearance, health of the water and longevity of your pool equipment.
Did you know an unkept, dirty pool can cause various health issues?
- Bacteria, such as E. coli and Salmonella, can thrive in contaminated pool water causing gastrointestinal issues.
- Dirty pool water can also cause skin infections like swimmer’s itch and dermatitis.
- Bacteria and other contaminants can cause pink eye and swimmer’s ear.
5 Steps to a happy, healthy pool
Step 1: Skim and clean daily
Use a skimmer net to remove leaves, debris, and insects from the water’s surface every day.
Clean out the skimmer and pump baskets every week to maintain proper water flow.
Step 2: Use an automated vacuum cleaner daily
Use an automated vacuum like a Kreepy Krauly to clean the pool floor and walls and remove dirt and debris on the bottom.
Step 3: Brush weekly
Brush the pool walls, steps, and corners to prevent algae growth and ensure thorough cleaning.
Step 4: Test your water regularly
Test the pool water regularly for pH, chlorine levels, alkalinity, and calcium hardness.
Adjust chemicals as needed. pH level should typically be between 7.4 to 7.6.
Step 5: Clean filter or backwash regularly
A clean filter helps maintain beautiful clear water by removing particles and debris.
