Why deep cleaning your car’s upholstery and carpets are important
5 June 2025Did you know that the average person touches their smartphone screen over 2000 times per day? We see the result of this on our screens – smudgy marks from our fingers and face can easily be spotted – which is why it’s obvious to clean it regularly.
Wiping down high-touch electrical devices like phones, phone cases and remote controls can prevent germ buildup, improve performance, and promote better hygiene but they aren’t the only electrical items that need to be cleaned often.
Read on for a list to prioritise and how to clean them.
1. Mobile Phones & Tablets
Cleaning frequency: Three to four times per week.
Method:
- Switch off the device and unplug it.
- Wipe down screens and cases with a sanitising wipe like our
Hand & Surface Sanitising Wipes. - Use a cotton bud for buttons and camera edges.
- Use Prestik to gently lift dirt from speaker holes or microphone ports.
2. TV Remotes & Game Controllers
Cleaning frequency: Weekly
Method:
- Remove batteries.
- Dilute one part All Purpose Cleaner with 10 parts water in a spray bottle.
- Spray the solution onto a
microfibre cloth (so it is just slightly damp) and wipe the surface. - Clean between buttons with a toothpick or cotton bud.
- Use an old toothbrush to loosen crumbs stuck in button gaps.
- Finish with a sanitising wipe.
3. Earphones & Headphones
Cleaning frequency: Weekly
Method:
- Remove silicone tips and soak them in warm, soapy water.
- Use an old toothbrush to gently remove dirt from mesh grills.
- Spray the All Purpose Cleaner solution on a microfibre cloth and wipe down wires and outer surfaces.
- Use a toothpick to lightly remove any stubborn dirt. Prestik can also remove dirt stuck in tiny, hard-to-reach places.
4. Computer Keyboards & Mice
Cleaning frequency: Weekly
Method:
- Unplug or switch off.
- Shake gently upside down to release debris.
- Spray the All Purpose Cleaner solution on a microfibre cloth and wipe the surface.
- Use a brush or cotton bud to remove dirt from between keys.
- Finish with a sanitising wipe.
5. Charging Stations & Power Strips
Cleaning frequency: Every 1–2 weeks.
Cleaning method:
- Unplug everything first.
- Spray the All Purpose Cleaner solution on a microfibre cloth and wipe the surface.
- Use a dry toothbrush or cotton bud to clean around sockets and ports.
6. Electric Toothbrushes & Shavers
Cleaning frequency: Weekly
Cleaning method:
- Remove brush heads and rinse them thoroughly.
- Soak heads in warm soapy water.
- Wipe down the handle with a sanitising wipe.
- Be cautious not to get any water in the charging ports.
7. Air Purifiers & Fans
Cleaning frequency: Every two to four weeks (and clean the filters as per manufacturer guidelines).
Cleaning method:
- Unplug the unit.
- Wipe the outer shell with All Purpose Cleaner solution and microfibre cloth.
- Remove the filter (if reusable) and clean according to instructions.
- Use a soft brush to dust the vents.
8. TV Screens, Laptop Screens & Monitors
Cleaning frequency: Weekly
Cleaning method:
- Turn off and unplug.
- Dust with a dry microfibre cloth.
- Dampen a microfibre cloth with the All Purpose Cleaner solution and wipe the surface.
9. Wi-Fi Routers & Modems
Cleaning frequency: Monthly
Cleaning method:
- Unplug the device.
- Wipe the exterior with a dry microfibre cloth.
- Use a soft brush to gently clean vents and ports.
10. Hair Dryers & Hair Styling Tools (e.g. straighteners)
Cleaning frequency: Every second week.
Cleaning method:
- Unplug and let it cool completely.
- Spray the All Purpose Cleaner solution on a microfibre cloth and wipe the surface (avoid the plug or cord).
- Use a toothbrush or cotton bud to clean grills or vents.
