Cleaning Warehouse: Top 5 essential floor and surface cleaning tools to own
23 October 2023Any time of the year can be suitable for deep cleaning and decluttering, but somehow in spring and summer it just feels right.
Did you know decluttering can reduce stress?
Research has shown that decluttering and organising your living spaces and office can lead to reduced stress levels and increased feelings of calmness and control.
Seasonal cleaning is a great way to refresh your home and office. To help you get motivated follow these seven steps:
Step 1: Create a plan of action
Before you begin, make a list of the areas you want to tackle and what you hope to achieve. Having a plan will help you stay focused. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in one day, so declutter and clean room by room, over a suitable period.
Step 2: Get help
Get everyone in the household involved in the process. Assign tasks to family members based on their abilities and interests.
Step 3: Get cleaning supplies
Collect all the cleaning supplies you’ll need, including cleaning agents, brushes, mops, a vacuum cleaner, garbage bags etc.
Step 4: Create piles
Separate your clutter into three piles: Keep, donate, and throw-out. Struggling with this? Ask yourself if you’ve used an item in the last year and if it adds value to your life.
Step 5: Label and store
Invest in storage solutions like bins, baskets, shelves, and drawer organizers. These can help you keep items neatly organized and prevent clutter from accumulating. Assign specific places for different categories of items. Labelling containers or shelves can help everyone in the household maintain order.
Step 6: Reward yourself
You deserve a pat on the back. Celebrate by treating the family to a group activity everyone will enjoy.
Step 7: Maintenance
Even with the best of intentions, clutter can slowly but surely creep back. Make it a priority with these tips:
- For every new item you bring into your home, consider getting rid of an old one.
- Keep a designated bin or bag in a closet where you can collect items to donate as you come across them during the year.
- Schedule time for maintenance. A few minutes each day or an hour each weekend can make a big difference.
Remember, seasonal cleaning and decluttering can be a process that takes time, so don’t rush it. The key is to make gradual, sustainable changes that lead to a more organised and clutter-free home and office.
